Sometimes, the most important relationship work you can do is on your own.

Individual relationship counselling gives you the space to explore how past experiences have shaped who you are in relationships.

How you attach, how you communicate, how you handle conflict, and what happens when you feel disconnected or misunderstood.

This isn't about assigning blame or analysing everything to death.

It's about building a gentler, more honest understanding of yourself, so you can start to respond to the people in your life from a more grounded place.

You might be in the right place if you:

Keep finding yourself in similar relationship dynamics, no matter who you're with

Struggle to express what you need, or feel guilty when you do

Tend to people-please, over-function, or shut down when things get hard

Are navigating a painful relationship transition or breakup

Want to understand your attachment style and how it affects your relationships

Feel stuck between wanting closeness and fearing it

Are working through the end of a long-term relationship and figuring out who you are now

What We’ll Work On:

Every person's journey is different, but some of the themes we often explore together include:

  • Understanding your attachment patterns and where they come from

  • Working through people-pleasing, over-giving, or difficulty receiving

  • Learning to identify and express your needs clearly

  • Softening self-criticism and building a more compassionate inner voice

  • Processing grief or loss: of relationships, of how things were supposed to go

  • Rebuilding your sense of self after a difficult relationship or separation

Therapeutic Approach

My primary therapeutic approach is humanistic, meaning I place the relationship at the centre of the work and see you as the expert in your own experience.

Our work is collaborative, compassionate, and paced to support meaningful change over time.

Alongside a humanistic foundation, I draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness and self-compassion to support both deep emotional understanding and practical, values-aligned change.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The frequency of sessions depends on your goals and current needs. Most clients start with weekly sessions, but we can adjust to fortnightly or monthly if that works better for your schedule or stage of healing.

  • My current rates for 60-min individual sessions is $140 AUD.

Concession rates are available for clients who are experiencing financial hardship. Please email Meg at hello@megjames.com.au if you would like to request a concession rate.

As an ACA-registered counsellor, I’m also able to accept NDIS funding under line item 15_043_0128_1_3.

Payment is due in full either upon booking or on the day of your session.

Your credit card information will be securely stored for automatic processing.

I charge a cancellation fee equal to the cost of your session if you cancel less than 48 hours before your session.

  • Yes! I offer online sessions via secure video call, so you can work with me from anywhere, as long as you have a stable internet connection.

  • I offer flexible session times, including mornings, afternoons, and occasional weekends and evenings. Availability can vary, so it’s best to book an intro call to find a time that suits you.

  • As a counsellor, I’m not qualified to diagnose clients. I prefer to get to know each client, work with them to make sense of their unique symptoms and see where we need to focus our sessions to help alleviate stressors. At times, I may discuss your view of diagnosis or potential diagnostic labels with you in order to provide you with resources or referrals.

  • Prior to your first session, you will receive intake forms via email. Please fill these out before we meet.

  • Individual sessions are typically 60 minutes. We’ll use this time to explore what’s happening for you and develop tools and strategies to support your healing.

  • Your first session is an opportunity to share your story, discuss your goals, and explore whether we’re a good fit. It’s a collaborative, safe space to begin your journey.

  • I believe the therapeutic relationship is centred on the idea that the client is the expert on their own lives. You know your experiences best and you know what you need to focus on in therapy. Because of this, I will trust you to come prepared each week with topics and areas of concern that you would like to explore together in your session. You are the guide: you will learn how to voice your needs and reclaim your autonomy by telling me what you want from each session.

  • Each session and the duration of your treatment is individualised based on your own personal needs. Overall, there is no set length of time I can estimate for our time together. Once you reach a point of growth where you feel confident in the goals you have reached, we will decide together when to bring your season of therapy to an end. This will be a collaborative process, from the beginning to the end.

  • You can begin with an intro call to ask questions and see if we’re a good fit. From there, we can book your first intake session and start your journey at a pace and frequency that works for you.
